JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane says there were signs of abuse a long time before a young woman was killed at the hands of her soldier boyfriend.

The South African National Defence Force member has confessed to killing his girlfriend Zestah September late last year.

September was found burnt beyond recognition on the side of the road in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg.

The man went missing after her body was discovered, but after a tip police found him at the 1 Military Hospital with self-inflicted wounds.

Nkosi-Malobane says they're keeping a close eye on this case and feel confident after he confessed.

"We will make sure that we assist the witnesses and prepare them for court. When they go to court, they'll testify against this monster and make sure he's taken away from society for a very long time."
