JOHANNESBURG - Police say two people who were arrested after a burnt body was found in a veld in Soweto have confessed to murder.

This comes as officials await DNA results on the remains, to determine if they could be those of 19-year-old Nonkululeko Ngubeni, who disappeared on 30 December.

The body was burnt beyond recognition and was discovered in Dobsonville the following day.

The police's Mpande Khoza says the suspects, a 23-year-old woman and a man also believed to be in his 20s, were found in possession of Ngubeni's belongings.

"They have been formally charged with the murder of that person's body. We don't know whose body it is, as we can't recognise it. Tomorrow they'll be appearing in the Protea Magistrates Court for the murder."
