JOHANNESBURG - The weather service is warning residents to brace for another heatwave this week.

Persistently high temperatures are expected across the country with the mercury peaking at 40 degrees in some parts.

Forecaster Mbavhi Maliage said cooler conditions are only expected from Friday.

"We're expecting a heatwave over Gauteng to persisting up until Thursday or Friday. We also expecting over North West province and the Free State to persist up until Thursday; mostly in parts of your Western Cape it will only persists up until Thursday. Already we're experiencing temperatures at 40 degrees in the Western Cape."
