High risk of Veld fires warning issued for Western Cape

CAPE TOWN - The South African Weather Service in Cape Town said there's a high risk of runaway or veld fires today as heatwave conditions persist.

The Western Cape has experienced several consecutive days of extreme heat with temperatures reaching well over 40 degrees in some places.

The hot conditions are expected to last at least until Tuesday.

Weather forecaster Carlton Fillis said has issued a high fire warning alert for the Western Cape.

"Together with this high temperatures and a little bit of a wind, we do have conditions which will trigger high fire condition."
