EC cattle farmer facing financial ruin commits suicide
An organisation assisting farmers says the farmer was facing financial ruin due to the persistent drought.
CAPE TOWN - An organisation assisting farmers has confirmed an Eastern Cape farmer has committed suicide as he was facing financial ruin due to the persistent drought.
Thirty-four-year-old Krisjan Kruger from Elliot in the Eastern Cape took his own life earlier this week.
The Farmers in Need Organisation's NC Schoombee says Kruger's livelihood depended on cattle farming.
"He was very down and in a kind of dark place because of the drought. He didn't know where the economic situation was going."
