JOHANNESBURG - KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested 51 suspects and recovered 47 illegal firearms as part of Operation Fiela.

The recoveries include 41 pistols, shotguns and homemade firearms.

The Provincial Police Commissioner Mmamonnye Ngobeni has called on communities to surrender their unlicensed firearms, or else they will have to face the law.

The police's Thulani Zwane said, "We are appealing to the members of the community to work together with the police in getting rid of illegal firearms in the province. Please give us information that can lead to the arrests and the recovery of illegal firearms."
