Sexwale: Blatter & Platini’s banning was unfortunate
The Fifa and Uefa heads were earlier this week handed an 8-year ban by Fifa’s ethics committee.
JOHANNESBURG - Fifa presidential candidate Tokyo Sexwale says Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini's banning by the ethics committee was an unfortunate incident in world football.
Earlier this week, Blatter and Platini were banned for eight years for failing to prove that a payment from the outgoing Fifa president to the Uefa head was above board.
Meanwhile, Sexwale had to provide information to a US grand jury last week regarding the bidding process of the 2010 World Cup, which is alleged to have been secured through bribery.
Sexwale says he hopes there can be some finality in Blatter and Platini's case.
"It's unfortunate that both our colleagues find themselves in this very difficult time. It's a sad story for them. I hope and trust that they'll be able to deal with their problems and do their appeals and so on… because for us a person is not guilty it's final with their appeal cause".
