CAPE TOWN - A four-year-old boy has been killed in a shooting in Hanover Park.

The child was apparently caught in the crossfire of a gang shooting last night.

The boy from Hermanus was visiting his grandmother in Hanover Park when the shooting broke out last night.

It's understood two rival gangs were involved in a gun battle when the child was hit by a stray bullet.

The local Community Policing Forum's Weldon Cameron says, "In that [area] where the boy was killed, there are running battles."

Cameron says some residents have been helping police in trying to track down the suspects but no arrests have yet been made.

Police have confirmed they are investigating a murder case following the incident.

The police's Andre Traut says, "The circumstances around the death of a four-year-old boy are being investigated by police following an incident last night. The boy was caught in a crossfire when two groups of men shot at each other. No one has been arrested as yet."
