Madonsela visits KZN hostel to probe murders
Thuli Madonsela was asked to investigate the motive for the killings at the Glebelands hostel.
JOHANNESBURG - Public protector Thuli Madonsela has visited the notorious Glebelands hostel in KwaZulu-Natal to probe a spike in killings in the area.
Madonsela was asked to investigate the motive for the killings as well as claims police are turning a blind eye.
The public protector interacted with several residents affected by the crime earlier today.
More than 30 people have died since the violence broke out.
Madonsela says residents are extremely concerned about the lack of action from law enforcement agencies.
"There were indications that police do investigate, however people go out on bail and when they come out they interfere with witnesses, including killing witnesses."
