RTMC warns motorists against excessive speed
RTMC says motorists are losing control of their cars due to excessive speed.
JOHANNESBURG - The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) says it's seeing more and more cases of motorists losing control of their cars due to excessive speed.
Officials say this is the highest recorded speed so far this festive season.
The RTMC says recklessness and arrogance on the roads are putting more lives at risk.
RTMC spokesperson Simon Zwane says, "We urge people to desist from driving at such high speed. It's extremely dangerous. It endangers other road users. We're seeing a lot of vehicles during this festive season that have overturned. Part of the reason for overturning is the speed."
Close to 500 people have been killed on the country's roads since the beginning of December.
