JOHANNESBURG - Eskom says the grid is stable and South Africans can expect a holiday season without load shedding.

The utility has embarked on another so-called maintenance festival which started on Wednesday, and is expected to last until the second week of January.

Eskom has managed to avoid load shedding for several months now.

Spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe said, "Our system is very stable at the moment. We will not have about 8,000 megawatts, we'll be doing a lot of maintenance on that. So when people come back from their holidays in January, then we'll have our units back online and we can meet that demand as expected from that time."
