Two die in Plettenberg Bay plane crash

CAPE TOWN - Two people have died in a plane crash near Plettenberg Bay.

The light aircraft crashed in the Palmietvlei mountains yesterday.

Authorities say the Cessna 186 was flying from Wonderboom Airport in Gauteng to Plettenberg Bay when it came down.

The pilot is in a critical but stable condition.

The National Sea Rescue Institute's Craig Lambinon said, "On arrival on scene, together with the airforce, a 50-year-old male believed to be the pilot was airlifted to hospital in a critical but stable condition. The bodies of two females aged 50 and 75 were discovered trapped in the wreckage."

The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Civil Aviation Authority.
