Operation Fiela to continue during festive season
Police Minister Nkosinathi Nhleko outlined the police's safety plan over the festive season.
JOHANNESBURG - The Police Department says it's working to change growing negative perception of the South African Police Service (Saps) so that people can trust officers.
The ministers of police, justice and correctional services gave feedback on the state of the country's courts, prisons and crime on Sunday.
A briefing in Pretoria also covered a safety plan for the festive season.
Police Minister Nkosinathi Nhleko says he's aware that many people don't trust the police.
He says investigative units need to do more to arrest criminals, to gain back the community's trust.
"If we resolve that area, that area is going to impact positively."
Nhleko says the department is assessing its colleges and training methods as a step towards improving public perception.
Added to this, he says Operation Fiela will continue during the festive season.
