Security beefed up at home of murdered JHB children
Community members turned violent after two teenagers and a baby were killed at their East Rand home.
JOHANNESBURG - The provincial Community Safety Department says it will increase security at the residence of a Katlehong family, where two teenagers and a seven-month-old baby were murdered.
The incident took place yesterday, with two of the victims' family members allegedly stabbing and beating the three, who were then drowned in a bath tub of boiling water.
It was fairly quiet at the Letswalo home this afternoon as family members mourned the death of three children.
Just yesterday, chaos erupted when community members allegedly attacked the two suspects as they tried to flee the crime scene.
MMC for Community Safety Vivian Chauke says, "Our police came here and said they were not going to allow any family member to come near the house, because the situation at the scene at that time was not normal."
The two suspects are under police guard at a local hospital in Vosloorus.
The brother of the two teenage girls, Kevin Bingo, says his family is stunned by the murders and he feels like he is stuck in a nightmare.
"It's hard to believe, you only [see] these things on TV or in newspapers."
Bingo says he is most concerned about his mother who has been battling to speak to people since hearing the news.
Ekurhuleni Health MMC Khosi Mabaso says the family will be given counselling to help them deal with the tragedy.
"This incident is the first for Katlehong."
Mabaso says the provincial Health Department will prioritise the post-mortems on the victims' bodies, to ensure the case against the two suspects moves quickly.
