Water dept repeats calls to save water
The Water and Sanitation Department says water wastage can no longer be tolerated.
JOHANNESBURG - The Water and Sanitation Department has again urged residents to look at alternative water sources as sweltering temperatures continue to impact South Africa's supply.
Parts of the country have experienced extreme drought due to a lack of rainfall since October.
KwaZulu-Natal has been the hardest hit, with water restrictions still being implemented in the province.
As dry weather is expected to continue throughout the summer, the department says water wastage can no longer be tolerated.
Spokesperson Sputnik Ratau said, "When we talk about water restrictions it isn't a punitive measure. It's a means to help us have a lot of water over a longer period of time."
