WC Health Department gears up for festive season
It's unveiled emergency medical plans as many holidaymakers are expected to flock to the province.
CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Health Department has unveiled emergency medical plans as many holidaymakers are expected to flock to the province this festive season.
The department says this period demands reinforced emergency services due to the high number of road crashes and fatalities.
The department's Colleen Smart says it's crucial that they roll out EMS contingency plans for the festive season.
"On the base that we're expecting high volumes of traffic, we're going to provide extended resources on major routes outside of Cape Town. We will also provide medical support to beaches on the days that we are expecting large numbers of people."
The three major emergencies that have been identified during this time are road crashes, drownings and violence-related injuries often resulted by alcohol consumption
Smart says the department has put in place measures that'll ensure emergency staff are well-equipped to deal with the increased demand over the festive period.
