CAPE TOWN - Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies says he serves at the pleasure of President Jacob Zuma.

Davies was asked whether he believed his job was secure at a briefing at Parliament a short while ago.

The question came in the wake of Zuma's abrupt axing of Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene, who's been relegated to the backbenches of Parliament.

"Ministers' jobs are at the pleasure of the president. The president is the one who makes the call and if and when he makes the call, that's when I can tell you something; but at this moment it is still business as usual, I still do the work of the ministry of trade and industry."
