JOHANNESBURG - Convicted murderer Sindisiwe Manqele has been granted bail in the High Court sitting in Randburg.

Yesterday Manqele was found guilty of murdering her rapper boyfriend Nkululeko 'Flabba' Habedi.

Manqele's lawyers made a formal bail application before the courts today, which was granted a short while ago.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA)'s Luvuyo Mfaku says she's out on R15,000.

"The State opposed bail but the court granted her bail. We should hasten to outline the fact that bail is not punitive, it's a measure to ensure the presence of an accused person in court."

'INTENT TO KILL'

Judge Solly Sithole said an assessment of her actions showed that she intended to kill Habedi.

The rap star was stabbed to death in his bedroom at his Alexandra home in March this year.

State prosecutors accused Manqele of killing Flabba out of jealousy.

The judge found the convicted murderer's account, that she stabbed Habedi in self-defence, could not be taken to be reasonably possibly true.
