Suspect arrested in Vanderbijlpark murders
A 39-year-old man is in custody after officers became suspicious when they questioned him.
JOHANNESBURG - Police have arrested a Gauteng man for murdering his wife and two teenage children in their family home in Vanderbijlpark.
The woman, her 14-year-old son and her 17-year-old daughter were shot and killed in the early hours of this morning.
The 39-year-old man is now in custody after officers became suspicious when they questioned him about this morning's murders.
The man had initially claimed that two robbers had killed his family while he was outside of the house and had dropped a firearm as they fled the scene.
But authorities now suspect that he killed his own family.
The police's Tsekiso Mofokeng said, "During the investigation he gave conflicting statements and the man will be charged with defeating the ends of justice, murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm."
Police have also confiscated two illegal firearms found in the man's possession.
The suspect will appear in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates Court soon.
