Two WC highways closed due to major collisions
The N1 between Beaufort West and Laingsburg and the N2 near Riversdal have both been affected.
CAPE TOWN - Sections of two major highways in the Western Cape have had to be closed after two separate collisions, both involving trucks.
On the N2 near Riversdale two trucks collided earlier this morning.
Provincial Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said one of the vehicles was carrying hazardous chemicals.
"The situation at the Riversdale, one truck is carrying dangerous goods, so we first have to make 100 percent sure before we do anything there, that we do the right thing. We're doing our utmost best to at least open the shoulders so that we can let the traffic go."
At the same time, part of the N1 between Beaufort West and Laingsburg has been closed to traffic following a collision involving three trucks.
