NW cop commits suicide in a police station
The constable, who was arrested for killing a man, shot himself shortly after his court appearance.
CAPE TOWN - A North West police officer has committed suicide just days after he shot and killed a man.
Police say the 34-year-old constable, from the Coligny Police Station, gunned down the local teacher on Sunday after discovering the man had been intimate with his girlfriend.
He then allegedly raped his girlfriend.
Police spokesperson Paul Ramaloko says the officer was arrested but shot himself shortly after his court appearance yesterday.
"While he was being processed at the police station he managed to grab a firearm of another police officer and shot himself on the head. He died instantly."
