Missing Orange Farm teens: 10 of 40 found beaten & bruised
10 teens were found through various police operations, but the whereabouts of the others remain unknown.
JOHANNESBURG - Police say 10 out of 40 teenagers reported missing from in and around Orange Farm have been found beaten and bruised.
The group aged between 13 and 17 disappeared from their homes just over a week ago.
Ten of them were found through various police operations, but the whereabouts of the others remain unknown.
Police confirmed a severely beaten 13-year-old boy was found at a Boksburg mining dump on Tuesday.
Spokesperson Johannes Motisiri says the site was being used as an illegal initiation school.
"He was assaulted. We advised the parents to take the child to a nearby clinic so that when he comes back we can open up a case of kidnapping."
He says authorities will continue searching both illegal and legal initiation schools for the 30 teenagers who are still missing.
"We have started searching for the children [and] investigating their whereabouts. As soon as we have found something concrete or some information that leads to the allegation of being forcefully taken, we are reporting a case."
No arrests have been made.
