‘There’s hope Masiphumelele residents will have homes by Sunday’

More than 4,000 people were displaced in a fire which broke out over the weekend.

CAPE TOWN - A Masiphumelele councillor says there's hope all shacks destroyed by a fire in Masiphumelele will be rebuilt by Sunday.

Over 4, 000 people were displaced when more than 1,100 homes were razed on Sunday.

Two people were killed.

Bulldozers are clearing the land where more than a 1,000 shacks were gutted by a fire.

Some residents are watching the clearing process, eager to start rebuilding their homes.

"I lost my house and lost a clothes. Everything was inside my house."

Most residents have opted to stay with relatives, while a small group is being housed at the local community hall.
