PRETORIA - The Supreme Court of Appeal has announced that judgment in the Oscar Pistorius appeal will be handed down on Thursday.

Pistorius shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day almost three years ago.

He was recently released under house arrest after spending a year in prison.

The National Prosecuting Authority appealed the athlete's culpable homicide conviction, arguing that he should have been convicted of murder.

In less than 48 hours, he will know whether his culpable homicide conviction has been overturned and replaced with murder.

Eyewitness News understands Judge Eric Leach will read a summary of the judgment into the record - and not just the court order as initially believed.

The state argued that Judge Thokozile Masipa incorrectly applied the principle of dolus eventualis to the facts of the case - and that she didn't properly consider all circumstantial evidence.
