‘Pistorius received no special treatment’
The Correctional Services Department says Oscar Pistorius was treated like any other prisoner while in jail.
PRETORIA - Gauteng's Correctional Services Department has denied giving Oscar Pistorius any special treatment during his time in prison.
Today journalists were given an opportunity to take an inside look at the Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre in Pretoria, including the area where Pistorius was accommodated.
The department says it gives no preferential treatment to 'high profile' offenders.
Acting Provincial Commissioner Mandla Mkhabela says the department's mandate is to provide safe custody and rehabilitation which they did for Pistorius.
He says all inmates are treated equally and that the Paralympian was only given privileges which he earned.
Today, officials at the prison gave several media houses a tour of the facility, making a quick stop at a unit once inhabited by Pistorius and Krejcir.
