CAPE TOWN - Prince Harry is lending a royal hand to youth empowerment initiatives across the Peninsula in a bid to deter them from a life of crime.

The British Royal is in Cape Town as part of a four-day tour of South Africa.

In the second of three official stops in Cape Town today, Prince Harry visited the Ottery Youth Centre.

The facility looks to help young people between the ages of 12 and 18 stay away from a life of crime.

The British Royal sat in on a seminar about why teenagers are lured into a life of gangsterism before he toured the centre, which includes a small farm and workshop training facilities.

Earlier today, Prince Harry honoured Archbishop Emeritus Desmond with the Queen's "Companions of Honour" award for his contribution to peace and reconciliation globally.
