Local soccer player arrested for assaulting a cop
The soccer star was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and assaulted the officer with car keys.
JOHANNESBURG - Police have arrested a local soccer player for assaulting an on-duty police officer and resisting arrest in Pretoria.
The 30-year-old man was travelling near the N1 north earlier today, when officers pulled over his vehicle for reckless driving.
The driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and when he was asked to produce his driver's licence, he became violent.
An officer was assaulted with car keys.
The police's Tsekiso Mofokeng says the man will appear in the Pretoria Magistrates Court tomorrow.
"The driver of the vehicle was under the influence of alcohol and as they were trying to communicate with him, he became violent and assaulted the officer on the face. The officer is fine, he went for a check-up and the doctor certified him fine."
