Three killed, hundreds left homeless in CT shack fires

Authorities have confirmed a third man has been killed in a shack fire in Langa.

CAPE TOWN - Two people have been killed and hundreds others left homeless after 800 shacks were burnt to the ground in Masiphumelele.

The fire broke out early this morning.

Three houses were also gutted in the blaze.

The City Of Cape Town's Liesl Moodie says, "We were assisted by Table Mountain National Park. Currently, we still have resources on scene, ensuring safety and mopping up."

At the same time, authorities have confirmed another man has been killed in a shack fire in Langa.

This is the latest casualty in just three hours.

Moodie says over 100 people have been displaced in Langa.

"We had approximately 100 structures destroyed by the fire which left approximately 180 people displaced. One adult male died as the result of that fire due to fatal burn wounds."
