NEW YORK - United States is facing the issue over race and lethal police force once again as a white police officer, who fatally shot a black teenager, has been charged with murder.

Chicago police officer Jason van Dyke has been charged with first degree murder for killing 17-year-old Laquan McDonald in the middle of a street in October last year.

The City of Chicago has seen people take to the street to protest over an issue that's become an urgent and recurring one here in the US over the past two years, white police officers using armed force against black men.

Authorities in Chicago released dash cam footage of the shooting, it was made public under judges orders last night, causing much anguish to those who view its graphic nature.

The City's Mayor, Rahm Emmanuel, insists the officer is being held accountable for his actions, he has been denied bail and will appear in court again on Monday.
