JOHANNESBURG - The Hawks have arrested 12 people, including three police officers, for alleged rhino poaching after an intelligence led operation in Gauteng and the North West.
The group are believed to be poaching kingpins and are alleged to have contributed to illegal poaching in both provinces since 2013.
The Hawks have also seized 13 illegal firearms, an electrical hack saw, four rhino horns and more than a million rand in cash.
The Hawks' Hangwani Mulaudzi says they will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates Court tomorrow on several charges.
"The case was registered in 2013, Project Ring Leader, and yesterday was culmination of it. It was a takedown operation where we arrested 12 suspects."
