Seawater: An alternative to solving the water crisis

JOHANNESBURG - As South Africa faces water problems, there are suggestions around the need for alternative water sources.

Desalinating seawater is one of the suggestions and Professor Anthony Turton from the Centre for Environmental Management at the University of the Free State (UFS) has.

Turton says that seawater cannot be used in toilets.

But says it can be used for other things.

There is however significant cost involved in the desalination process.
