Hanover Park Clinic to remain closed
Authorities will not reopen the Hanover Park Clinic following several incidents of gang violence.
CAPE TOWN - The Hanover Park Clinic will remain shut until next year.
The facility was forced to close its doors earlier this month due to gang violence in the area.
The City of Cape Town says it's decided to keep the clinic's doors closed until the end of January 2016.
An assessment will then be done to determine the way forward.
Staff had to be relocated to the Newfields Satellite Clinic amid the ongoing violence.
Hanover Park Clinic patients are also receiving treatment there.
Health Mayco member Siyabulela Mamkeli says, "The situation is not ideal. But we're looking at ways to address the space constraints at the satellite clinic to allow for the basic minimum services to be provided in an environment conducive to service delivery."
Mamkeli adds staff members are also receiving counselling following the trauma earlier this month.
