JOHANNESBURG - Eric Tinkler's primary objective ahead of the first leg of the CAF Confederations Cup final was to keep a clean sheet.

Unfortunately for Orlando Pirates, an Ammar Jemal strike three minutes from time, means Etoile du Sahel head into the second leg as strong favourites to lift the trophy.

Thamsanqa Gabuza opened the scoring for the hosts with a stunning strike in the 36th minute, although Etoile thought they had taken the lead after a Mohamed Msakni header was ruled offside.

The Buccaneers looked to be home and dry but then conceded a soft goal from a free kick as the visitors' captain scored from close range.

The result means Pirates will have to score away from home.

The second leg takes place in Sousse on 29 November.
