CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town is considering more cost effective methods to build more Early Childhood Development (EDC) facilities.

The Social Development and Early Childhood Development Directorate is tasked with providing adequate ECD facilities to practitioners in the city.

There are currently 26 such buildings, with several more in the pipeline.

The city's Suzette Little says the traditional brick-and-mortar route is timely and costly and other methods are currently being investigated.

Little says they are looking at refurbishing old unused buildings to use as ECD facilities

"We are contemplating how we can fast-track the provision of EDC infrastructure to meet that need but still adhere to the high standards that the children act demands. We'll simply not be able to make big enough dent if we continue business as usual."
