CAPE TOWN - An Atlantis resident will have to pay R9,000 towards the repairs of a MyCiTi bus after pleading guilty to a charge of malicious damage to property.

The 22-year-old struck a deal with the City of Cape Town on Firday after he was identified as the person who threw a rock at the window of the bus in September.

He was tracked down through the help of the local neighbourhood watch and eyewitnesses.

The city's Brett Heroon says the stoning of buses is an issue on all MyCiTi routes.

"The stoning of buses is completely senseless and the warning coming out of this arrest and prosecution is we will not rest until we find those people are sabotaging the buses and creating dangerous situations for the drivers and passengers."
