Reports: Zuma allegedly swapped favours for votes with WC gangs
It’s being reported that Zuma allegedly met with gang bosses in a bid to wrestle the WC away from the DA.
The Mail and Guardian newspaper says according to its sources, the meeting saw the underworld figures promise to rally their members to vote for the African National Congress(ANC), while Zuma allegedly offered to look into their troubles with Sars.
The newspaper says notorious gangsters Quinton Marinus, known as 'Mr Big' and Igshaan Davids known as 'Sannie America' attended the 2 May meeting, but quotes the presidency dismissing the information as "mere gossip".
The report says the meeting with Zuma included other prominent members such as religious leaders and members of the Griqua Royal House.
Lloyd Hill, a underworld figure, who is said to be a long-time Zuma family associate, reportedly held a preparatory meeting with the group before leaving for the president's residence in Rondebosch.
It's believed Hill told the group that they would be rewarded with business opportunities, if they supported the ANC.
During the meeting, Davids allegedly asked Zuma whether the elections date could be moved in order to mobilize more people, but Zuma said it was not possible.
The report also says that Zuma's son Duduzane played a role in the meeting and he allegedly ensured that security did not record the identities of the visitors.
