Gauteng govt to host 2nd Mandela Remembrance Walk
The 5km walk will revisit the route used to transport Nelson Mandela’s body after he died in 2013.
JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng's Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Department has opened registrations for its annual Nelson Mandela Remembrance Walk to honour the struggle stalwart next month.
The 5km walk will revisit the route used to transport Mandela's body after he passed away in 2013, starting at Kgosi Mampuru prison in Pretoria, on to the Union Buildings.
Spokesperson for the department, Nomazwe Ntlokwana, says significant heritage sites will be included on the route which will be led by Gauteng Premier David Makhura.
"We will be using the event to relieve the memory of Tata Mandela but to also to celebrate his life in a manner that says let us not forget where we come from. So we will be using the 12th of December once more to come together."
Ntlokwana has encouraged residents to register on the provincial government site by 4 December.
