Police monitor as some CPUT students protest

The students are refusing to leave residences after being ordered by authorities this week, to vacate.

CAPE TOWN - Police have been dispatched to the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) 's Bellville campus, where a small group of students are protesting, refusing to leave residences.

CPUT spokesperson Lauren Kansley says no student has been forced to leave.

"A small group of protesting students are being closely monitored by campus protection and the South African Police Service."

This week, the CPUT financial aid building was set alight for the second time while at the University of the Western Cape (UWC), a residence and security booths were torched.
