Gunshots & explosions rock #Paris as cops allegedly corner mastermind

Alleged mastermind of the Paris attacks, Abdel Hamid Abaaoud, is the target of the major police operation.

The shots were fired during early morning counter-terror raids in the suburb of Saint-Denis. AFP.

PARIS - A number of suspects, including the alleged mastermind of the Paris attacks, Abdel Hamid Abaaoud, are reportedly holed up in a building as a major police operation continues in the suburb of Saint-Denis.

The situation comes as police continue with their hunt for all suspects involved in the deadly terrorist attacks that rocked the french capital five days ago, leaving 132 people dead.

It's being reported that several police officers have been hurt, three people killed and two arrests made so far.

French media say a woman died after detonating a suicide belt while another suspect was shot by a police sniper.

Reports also say that a passerby was killed during a shootout.

Police in full assault gear have cordoned off the zone and all public transportation in the area has been halted.

Police blocked off roads early this morning in the northern Paris suburb.

Police have been carrying out early morning counter-terror raids for the past three days and dozens of arrests have been made.

FLIGHTS DIVERTED

At the same time, Air France says it had to take precautionary measures following anonymous threats after both flight AF055 from Washington and AF065 from Los Angeles took off last night.

The airline has confirmed the planes have landed safely in Halifax and Salt Lake City.

Local authorities are carrying out inspections of the aircraft as well as passengers and their luggage.

Officials are also investigating the source of the call.

It comes after the stadium where Germany and Holland were expected to play an international friendly last night was evacuated 90 minutes before kickoff after a suspicious object was found inside the venue.

German chancellor Angela Merkel and several cabinet ministers were expected to attend the match.

A friendly between Belgium and Spain was also called off yesterday due to a terrorist threat.
