PRETORIA - Three weeks after being released under correctional supervision, Oscar Pistorius has started his formal programme of community service.

The athlete worked at the Garsfontein Police Station on Saturday.

Pistorius was sentenced to five years in prison for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day two years ago.

Pistorius reported to the Garsfontein Police Station shortly before 8am in the morning and knocked off at about 3pm in the afternoon.

It's unclear what work Pistorius will be required to do.

However it's understood it will involve menial labour, like tending to gardens and cleaning cells.

The athlete was wearing a white t-shirt, a black cap and dark sunglasses when his sister Aimee dropped him off in the morning.

His uncle Arnold arrived to pick him up in the afternoon.

The Supreme Court of Appeal is expected to rule in the next month whether the state's appeal to have Pistorius's culpable homicide conviction set aside and have him convicted of murder.
