CAPE TOWN - The Grassy Park Community Policing Forum (CPF) says the communities of Lotus River and Ottery remain volatile following a spate of sporadic shootings last week.

According to community reports, up to 50 shots were fired at law enforcement officials earlier this week.

Rival gangs in the areas have been at war with one another over the past few weeks.

Several bystanders have been wounded during crossfire.

The Grassy Park CPF's Phillip Bam said, "Neighbourhood watchers are asked not to get involved when there are shootings but we do have extra police forces in the area. The reserves are also coming i=on duty now to support the full time police."
