Proteas’ batsmen fail to fire on day one
Despite a classy 85 from De Villiers, there will be some batsmen who will need to ask tough questions.
JOHANNESBURG - South Africa were asked to bat, and once more failed to support test centurion Ab de Villiers, as they were bundled out for 214 on the opening day of the 2nd test against India in Bangalore.
Despite a classy 85 from De Villiers, there will be some batsmen who will need to ask tough questions as only Dean Elgar provided some noteworthy assistance for de Villiers, Elgar's the only other shining light with the bat.
Hashim Amla and Faf Du Plessis are yet to get going in the Test series, and that will worry the Proteas coaching staff.
While the pitch had less demons than the one from the 1st test, spinners Ravichandran Ashiwn and Ravindra Jadeja still picked up four wickets each as the visitors struggled to keep them at bay, and the hosts will be very happy with their efforts as Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay are unbeaten in their opening stand, and will resume on 80/0 on day 2.
2nd Test: Stumps on Day 1
India 80/0, South Africa 214 all out
India trail by 134 runs.
