2 inmates die after fire at Belfast prison

Correctional Services says the fire was started by inmates in the early hours of Saturday morning.

JOHANNESBURG - Two inmates have died and six others have been injured in a fire at the Belfast Correctional Facility in Mpumalanga.

The Correctional Services Department says the fire was started by inmates in the early hours of the morning.

The department says the blaze was extinguished before it could spread to other cells.

Those injured were transported to the Witbank Provincial and Belfast local hospitals.

It's not clear why the inmates set their cell on fire.
