Nkandla architect gets classified documents to build defence
Public Works has handed over classified documents to Minenhle Makhanya.
Makhanya had said he needed the documents to defend himself against claims that he is responsible for the bill for President Jacob Zuma's Nkandla home, rising to over R250 million.
Last year, Public Protector Thuli Madonsela said Zuma should pay back some of the money spent on his home.
The department's Phillip Masilo says they've done what the High Court ordered them to do.
"We made the documents available as a department to the attorneys in Pietermaritzburg, for them to file with the court, because with the judgment, there are some strict terms on how these documents should be dealt with."
Makhanya has said he did nothing wrong while he was in charge of the Nkandla upgrades.
But his lawyers have said they need these documents so they can show he's not guilty of wrongdoing.
