Earlier this week, hundreds more shacks were destroyed in a fire in Kya Sand.
Emergency services Nana Radebe says an investigation will now be launched to determine what caused the latest blaze.
"We have about 17 shacks that were gutted but we've managed to contain the fire. Everything is under control. Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities reported."
Relief organisation, Gift of the Givers, is meanwhile on site in Alexandra to assist the 50 families with food and blankets before night falls.
The Gift of the Givers' Saadiq Natha said, "We've prepared hygiene packs and blankets to give out tonight. When we meet with the resident, we'll have another discussion to see how we can further assist."
