CAPE TOWN - KwaZulu-Natal police say a second suspect arrested for the beheading of a Durban man is expected to appear in court by the end of the week.

The victim's head was recovered on a gumtree plantation south of the city on Monday night.

Police say they're yet to officially identify the victim, but he's widely been named as 23-year-old Durban resident Nawaaz Khan.

The budding cricketer was reported missing on Saturday.

It's believed Khan may have been beheaded as part of a traditional ritual.

The police's Nqobile Gwala said, "Forensic analysts have conducted tests to confirm if the head is indeed that of Nawaaz Khan."

The second suspect in the gruesome murder is believed to be a traditional healer.

Police have urged community members not to follow criminal instructions, from what they "call merciless traditional practitioners".
