Gigaba jumps to Zuma’s defence over 'controversial' comments
Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba accused the opposition of being 'obsessed with the President'.
Gigaba has told the National Assembly that Zuma's detractors should not opportunistically 'spin his words'.
Zuma has been strongly criticised by opposition parties and political analysts for the comments he made while addressing the ANC's KwaZulu-Natal conference at the weekend.
Minister Gigaba had accused the opposition of being obsessed with the president.
"The obsession with President Zuma must honestly come to an end so that we are able to judge the president, his words and his actions fairly."
Democratic Alliance Member of Parliament Geordin Hill-Lewis hit back at Gigaba.
"In everything that we do as honourable members of this house and as public representatives in South Africa, we need to put South Africa first."
The ANC has previously said Zuma was quoted out of context.
