Family of alleged criminal mastermind speak out
Ignatius 'Junior 13' Selokwane was killed in what appears to be an execution in Mamelodi on Sunday.
JOHANNESBURG - The family of a man gunned down in Mamelodi has told Eyewitness News they knew Ignatius Selokwane as a kind and loving man, not as a criminal mastermind or syndicate boss.
Selokwane, known as 'Junior 13', was killed in what appears to be an execution on Sunday night outside his butchery, east of Pretoria.
Police believe he orchestrated some of the most elaborately planned bank robberies and hijackings in the region.
Selokwane's family says they're still in shock.
They say while 'Junior 13', as he's popularly known, may not have been perfect, he was a good father and a friend to many.
Speaking on behalf of the family, his cousin Tebogo Selokwane has pleaded with people to allow them to mourn.
"During our period of grief and mourning we would not like to engage any further on this matter."
Police say they have not yet established a motive for his shooting and investigations continue.
No arrests have been made.
