CAPE TOWN - Disaster risk management teams from the Kouga Municipality in the Eastern Cape are searching for a site where a meteorite apparently crashed.

Several sightings were reported in the Patensie area last night.

The municipality's Mfundo Sobele said, "We've confirmed with people that indeed there was something in the air that looked like a fire ball. There was a big bang and quite a big impact, so what was said to be a rumour may actually be true. But we haven't been able to establish where the site is."
