KZN woman arrested for kidnapping baby
It’s understood the 23-year-old offered to take care of the baby while the mother went to buy food.
JOHANNESBURG - A KwaZulu-Natal woman has been arrested for kidnapping a three-week-old baby from a hospital in Empangeni.
It's understood the 23-year-old woman offered to take care of the baby at the hospital earlier this week while the mother went to buy food. She then disappeared with the baby.
Police say she was found yesterday with the baby in her possession at a house in the area.
The police's Thulani Zwane says the woman will be charged with kidnapping.
"This is not the first case reported in the province and that is why we are appealing to the parents to make sure they don't deal with strangers."
The baby has since been taken back to hospital for check-ups.
